The world’s largest marine-life adventure park has over 25 shows, roller coasters, water rides and slides, educational exhibits and of course, all sorts of marine life. One of the more popular shows is 'Shamu Visions,' an eye-popping show that combines live action and incredible close-ups on a giant monitor. Using big-screen TV technology, the world’s most-famous killer whale splashes into the 21st century. Cameras above and below water at multi-million-gallon Shamu Stadium give guests a larger-than-life vantage point as killer whales and their trainers engage in a thrilling display of precision and strength. Shamu also stars in another new show, 'Shamu’s Hollywood Night Magic,' the glitzy finale of SeaWorld’s new 'Hollywood Night Magic' family entertainment celebration presented each evening May 27 through Aug. 6. The nighttime Shamu show puts leaping whales into the spotlight, along with pulsating music from contemporary movies, video vignettes from classic films and special lighting effects. Other 'Hollywood Night Magic' highlights include the glittering 'Hollywood Live on Ice' show with professional figure skaters and singers at The Gunn Meadow Theatre and 'Clyde and Seamore’s Movie Madness,' a side-splitting cinematic spoof with comical sea lions Clyde and Seamore. For those who like thrills, a new 'terror of the deep' now lurks at SeaWorld. It’s 'The Steel Eel,' the first hypercoaster in Texas or the Southwest and one of the top 25 steel coasters in the U.S., according to a recent Amusement Today survey. This voracious new breed of roller coaster dives from 15 stories, reaches speeds of almost 65 mph and quickly defines the meaning of 'hypercoaster.' Guests experience weightlessness, or 'air time,' as they race up and over camelback humps. An encounter with the slithery, 3,700-foot beast begins with a heart-pounding 150-foot plunge toward the Water Ski Lake. SeaWorld San Antonio surprised and delighted coaster lovers with The Great White, the first coaster ever built at a SeaWorld park and the Southwest’s first inverted coaster. 'Inverted' means guests dangle their legs from the ride and go heels-over-head five times during a thrill-packed series of dives, loops, corkscrews and other high-speed maneuvers. For a small extra fee, guests also may go behind-the-scenes and learn firsthand how SeaWorld provides year-round care for more than 11,000 animals. Another tour, the Bird Adventure Tour, enables guests to meet birds from wild extremes, animals such as penguins and parrots. |
